What we’ve achieved
Made in the USA
- Most Oribe products are made in the USA with globally sourced ingredients.
- A few products—including our Italian Resin Brushes & Combs (made in Italy)—are produced in partnership with makers abroad to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship.
Responsible Sourcing
- Oribe is committed to sourcing our products responsibly across our packaging and formulations.
- All products meet global regulation and safety standards, including the extremely rigorous formulation standards of the European Union, meaning we ban more than 1,300 different ingredients for use in our products.
- We work together with our partners and suppliers to set and adhere to policies and codes of conduct that support the well-being of both people and planet—ensuring transparency, non-discrimination, worker health and safety, fair compensation, environmental health, and more.
Proudly Approved by PETA
- Oribe never tests on animals.
- Oribe is a proud member of the Beauty Without Bunnies Program created by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
- We also do not use any raw materials that are animal tested†.
Future Goals
Craft next-generation formulations that support a healthy environment
- Launch next generation product(s) in three of our best-selling categories to deliver breakthrough innovation on at least one impact category * with no compromise on performance by 2027.
Reduce the environmental impact of our existing formulas by unlocking solutions with experts, innovators, and suppliers
- Simpler ingredient lists: For every reformulation and new product development onwards, only keep ingredients that contribute to Oribe product performance and sensory experience.
- Product transparency: Publish our glossary of ingredients, highlighting for each one its purpose and minimum concentration threshold by 2024.
- Ingredient traceability: Ensure that 100% of select natural raw ingredients are traceable back to source by 2027.
What we’ve achieved
Internal Initiatives
- We partner with It Gets Better, a nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.
- We partnered with Whitney Dunlap-Fowler, cultural strategist and founder of Touch of Whit Creative and Insights in Color, to educate our team members, inform our brand strategy and consult on ways to foster diversity, equity and inclusion, internally and externally.
- We expanded recruitment efforts by reaching out to diverse hiring websites, as well as HBCUs, to aid in our efforts of creating a corporate culture where all employees are valued and celebrated.
- We worked with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Board of our parent company, Kao, and have provided Unconscious Bias and Understanding Racism trainings as well as allyship and micro-aggressions workshops for all employees.
- We participate in Kao’s ongoing virtual series, “Courageous Conversations,” and our writing series “Take a Moment” pieces, in which team members and subject matter experts discuss their personal experiences as a means of educating the company about racism and injustice.
- Kao celebrates Diversity Months to foster an inclusive and equitable workplace where every individual feels valued and respected and to raise awareness about the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of its employees and customers. This initiative promotes a sense of belonging, encourages open dialogue, and drives innovation by embracing the power of diversity in all its forms. - We support our salon and retail partners in creating inclusive luxury consumer experiences and have developed tools and trainings for stylists to work across all hair types.
- We expanded our salon education curriculum to include styling and cutting classes that focus on textured hair, ensuring that our educational offerings cater to a wider variety of hair types.
- We have partnered with Milady and Stylez to provide a series of educational classes for beauty schools in the Milady network focused on the care and styling of textured hair.
